Have you ever tried to peel a hard boiled egg, only to become frustrated that the shell sticks to the egg inside? The whites peel away with the shell as you frustratedly try to peel perfect eggs. Maybe for deviled eggs for a party.
Easter is just around the corner and lots of people will be cooking up eggs and coloring them into beautiful pastels. Here is the thing. Buy your eggs now! Easter is just about 3 weeks away. The fresher the egg, the higher the pH in the egg white. As the pH drops, the easier it becomes to peel your shell away from your hard boiled egg. If you don't care for hard boiled eggs, then blow the insides of the eggs out, and color the empty shells.Another tip- when your kids hands look like this:
wash their hands with Cascade dishwashing detergent. The dye will come right off. And if you want to skip the commercial dyes this year there are lots of ways to give your eggs some color. You can use turmeric, beets, grape juice, onion skins and cabbage for natural colorings. Or make your own dyes by adding food coloring and a tablespoon of vinegar to a cup of water.
